Two Step Authentication (2SA) is put in place as a security measure, to further protect your Xero account from dodgy activity.
To enable 2SA requires your smart phone, and the Google Authenticator App (this can be downloaded in the Apple App store or the Google Play store).
Enable (or re-enabling) Two Step Authentication
Once downloaded, to ENABLE 2SA, the following steps need to be followed:
- Click your account button in the top right hand corner and select 'Account' from the list of options, to access your account settings
- Under the Two Step Authentication heading, select 'Setup'
- Go to your smart phone and open the Google Authenticator App. Select the '+' in the top right hand corner to open the scanner
- Hold this scanner over the barcode on the screen of your Xero account. This should automatically scan and add your code generator to your phone
- To finalise this, enter the code generated by your app
- You'll now need to add some extra details. Select your security questions to ensure you can always get into your account. PICK QUESTIONS YOU REMEMBER THE ANSWERS TO!
- Finally, you may select an alternative email address for further security and assurance you'll always be able to access your Xero account. Use an email address you won't forget the password to.
- Your 2SA is now set up!
Disabling Two Step Authentication
- Click your account button in the top right hand corner and select 'Account' from the list of options, to access your account settings
- Click the red 'Disable' button under the Two Step Authentication heading
- One clicked, you will need to use the code on your current Google Authenticator app. [NOTE - if you are changing phones, you will need to disable 2SA with your old phone BEFORE enabling it on your new phone. If you no longer have access to this phone, you may use your security questions to disable it]
- Once your code is input, click the final 'Disable' button. Your 2SA is now disabled. Follow the steps above to re-enable your 2SA.
